Why my lady garden excites me ๐
Why my lady garden excites me…….
“I would love to have one of those little gardens on the seafront, I wonder how much they are to sponsor?!” I said to my husband during summer 2019, whilst stuck in Worthing traffic.

That birthday in December, I was surprised with documents to a plot…a superb location too, right opposite the Denton lounge (now Pavillion Atrium), just shy of the big wheel.
He told me he thought it would cost him a couple of hundred pounds, but much to his amazement, it was FREE. I just needed to look after it.
Worthing Town Initiative donate ยฃ30 worth of plants from Ferring Nurseries. ย On top of that, there’s cash prizes for the best display, including the ‘peoples choice award’

Then the pandemic hit us in early spring and I just hoped we would still be able to shed some joy along the promenade, which little did we know, was to become a popular outdoor attraction for exercising.
I wasn’t sure if I was cut out for this job; I’ve only had my own garden for 7 years and have no clue what I’m doing!
I just thought it would give me something to focus on, a reason to use my creativity skills (because lets face it, my job wasn’t doing that). And also an opportunity to chat with the locals. social distancing of course!
The planter is also great advertising for my community based dance business.

2021 came along and I did the Worthing Journal inspired guerrilla style gardening again.
Each planter filled with beautiful vibrant plants blossomed over the months and finally they were judged in August by the Mayor and his wife.
I am super chuffed to win the Peoples Choice award with over 250 votes, so THANK YOU to all who voted.
I am taking the ยฃ100 cash to help raise more money for West Sussex Mind charity in 2022
Needless to say, my hubby still owes me a ยฃ200 gift!
